Causes of something

Dear Class,

This week and next we will be focusing on essays involving the causes of something.  Since we have all traveled to different cities,  I'd like to find out some information.  Why do you think some cities are popular with tourists?  What are the causes or reasons why some people want to visit Paris, Rome, New York, Shanghai or other big cities?

Respond by this Friday, the 27th and respond to another student also.

Comparing Something

During this week and next we will be doing a comparison/contrast essay. Since I was recently in India, I thought of several differences between India and the U.S. One in particular is breakfast. At all the hotels in India we were served American breakfasts, if that is what we wanted; however, we also had the choice of Indian food for breakfast. Sometimes I had soup with lentils, rice, fresh fruit and Indian bread. We always had tea with milk too. In Tucson I usually eat oatmeal with walnuts and raisins, toast with butter and jam and tea for breakfast.
I really enjoyed the Indian breakfasts, but I was also happy to have my usual food in my home too.

I would like you to compare something between your country and the U.S. (or just Tucson). What is one difference? Maybe it has to do with food, meals, clothes, or customs. Tell your classmates about it and respond to one person. Do this by Friday, the 13th.

Week 2

Dear Class,

When I was 10 years old I learned how to knit from a woman who owned a yarn store near my house. I knitted many things: sweaters, hats and scarves. Then I stopped knitting for many years. I started again about ten years ago and I just finished knitting a hat for my daughter.

What about you? What is something you have learned how to do? Who taught you? Respond to at least one of your classmates. Do this by Friday, the 30th.

First Week

Dear Class,
How does it feel to be in the classroom? Maybe some of you had Spring Break for one week and others just arrived at CESL. Tell me what you like about learning and what you don't like. You should write at least 4 sentences.

Please do this by Friday, the 23rd at midnight.
